Perhaps you’ve heard of the recent contamination issues in Fonterra’s powder products? I say that we in Taranaki – and in New Zealand – should be concerned when such a large amount of income and employment depends on a couple of industries. One big failure and some major aspects of our economy gets a real shaking.
In case you hadn’t noticed, the oil and gas industry world-wide has had it’s fair share of environmental disasters, not to mention the ongoing contribution to CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. Is this a risk we want to take?
There’s got to be some smarter ideas, some better ways to employ people…
So, here’s a further call for some fresh ideas to work alongside our big industries to broaden the economic and social base of the region.
